Hallelujah! A breakthrough in Discovering a Seizure Aura

pink_sprinkled_donut

Hey everyone! I have wonderful news! Over the past five years I have had difficulty identifying my seizure auras, which put me in dangerous situations. I could never predict one at all, which caused burns, broken, teeth, and black eyes, to name some.
Today! Today though was different. While I was at Starbucks I sat down with my laptop and it felt as though my eyes were getting wider and wider. “As wide as donuts” I like to think. Then my brain clued in and said “SEIZURE!” I managed to grab some Ativan and it subsided the seizure. You have no idea (or maybe you do!) what an amazing experience this is! I have broken ground!! Hallelujah!!

So…I could not find a better song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIuCwnnDq8k   Leonard Cohen-Hallelujah

Seizures During the Holiday Season

stock-vector-cute-little-owl-pet-in-the-tea-cup-vector-christmas-illustration-306875660

Hey everyone! If you haven’t noticed, I have officially purchased a domain name. http://www.lifeatfullvolume.net is now my blog URL!!

I was recently told that I was selected for TedxStanleyPark in May 2016 which is SUPER exciting!! I am elated that I have been given this opportunity. More updates as the time comes closer though 😉

Let’s be real and talk about the tough stuff. I LOVE the holidays. I love the cheer, merriness, plus who are we kidding- FOOD that comes along with it. But with all of this comes a ton of socializing, late nights, and sometimes missed meds.

I have found it to be very tiring with all of this holiday stuff- just because I am usually tired all of the time. I need tons of extra rest to prevent seizures in the future. Sadly, I am not the greatest at getting rest, so I have had some bad seizures in the past few days. Boo.

My tips for you during this holiday season would be:

1. Get tons of sleep! Sleep whenever possible- if even a 20 minute power nap.
2. Go easy on the booze. We all know that alcohol can lower your seizure threshold.
3. Be extra vigilant with medications- with so much going on it is easy to forget.
4. Reach out to someone if you are feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes just talking it out helps a lot.
5. Know when to say no! It is so fun to socialize and party, but if you are actually really tired- just say no. If you have good friends they will understand.
6. Lastly think about some new years goals regarding your health that could be put in place. You might just surprise yourself!

Lots of love! xox

My Answers!

Questions to answer:

  1. What do you love best about blogging?
I love being able to create a community around me, and learn about other people’s thoughts and experiences. I also LOVE writing, so I feel like it is my creative outlet.
  2. What do you love most about yourself?
I love that I am a very thoughtful and kind person. I tend to put others ahead of myself, and am able to adapt my personality to other people’s personalities.
  3. Do you favor time alone or time with others?
I love love love being in a group of people. I am what you would call a chatty extrovert. However, sometimes I get run down and it’s nice to just have some thinking time by myself.
  4. What is your favorite thing to do in life?
That is a very difficult question to answer because I love so many things in life. I love sunny days, and rainy nights. However the best thing would be to dance to upbeat music and just not have a care in the world about what’s happening.
  5. What is your favorite quote?
My favourite quote would have to be “The Journey of a Thousand Miles begins with a single step”- Lao Tzu. Because it’s true. You can’t go anywhere without taking that first step in life.
  6. What do you most admire?
I admire people who are able to calm themselves without getting insanely stressed out. People who can handle adversity like a champ and go, step by step, to reaching their goals.
  7. What is your greatest fear?
What is my greatest fear? Mice. Oh my gosh they were not meant to scurry around so quickly. Aside from that, my greatest fear would be to not have a purpose in life. To not be doing anything to help anyone or  to not  have a fulfilling life.
  8. How is it best for a person to portray individuality?
I believe that clothing is a great way for people to show their individuality. One of my best friends has taught me to be me, without caring what the world thinks. So through attire, and standing up for your own values are really big ways of showing who you are as a person.
  9. Do you have a favorite environment for work?
I love working in coffeeshops. Other than that, I like having other people around, whether we are working in a team or someone else is just close by to say hi to on breaks.
  10. What is your greatest accomplishment?
    Getting my degree!
  11. What is your favorite season?
I do love Winter because of all of the Holiday cheer, but I also really really love Spring because it is my birthday month and all of the new flowers are popping out of the ground.

Christmas Shopping and a Whole Lot of Sleep Talking

olaf
Hey everyone! Are you excited for Christmas?? I am! Tomorrow I get to start using my David’s Tea advent calendar which I am super excited about. On a less superficial note, my family and my boyfriend’s family have decided that he will spend Christmas Eve with me, and then I will spend Christmas with him and his extended relatives. This is super exciting for me because I have never spent Christmas day with a boyfriend.

In order to get ready for Christmas, my boyfriend and I went shopping on Saturday for FIVE hours. Yes you read that right. FIVE. The mall was jammed packed with a dizzying amount of people. I helped him pick out some gifts and then we split up when he went to get my gifts. I’m not going to lie: I felt like an old lady walking around because my bag was heavy and it was hurting my back. Not good at all. I didn’t want to rush him though since he was picking out my gifts. I had been invited to a party that night but I needed to go home and crash.

Once it was late enough, I conked out in about two seconds and morning arrived in no time. As we were waking up my boyfriend said “Were you talking at all last night?” I was confused. With the amount of medications I take, I am not a light sleeper. “N0pe. I conked right out last night. Why?” He told me that I had been lying on my back when I said his name. He sleeps light as a feather so he woke up. He responded with a “yeah?” and I said “Oh my god Becky look at her butt!” And then I rolled over with my back facing to him.

He wanted to burst out in laughter but still didn’t want to wake me. He probably wouldn’t have anyways. Since meeting my wonderful guy I have learned that I sleep talk an awful lot. It’s crazy! Kinda fun at the same time though.

Happy December 1! If you don’t celebrate Christmas I hope you have good holidays. 🙂

lots of love xox
